Family Life Office

Through the Family Life Office, the Diocese of Lincoln coordinates programs for marriage preparation, marriage enrichment, and chastity education, as well as offering Natural Family Planning classes for engaged and married couples. Please note that non-Catholics will feel welcome to take part in these programs as well.

FertilityCare Center - Diocese of Lincoln - The Creighton Model-Ovulation Method of Natural Family Planning (NFP) for those wishing to learn this positive approach to family planning. A Group Introductory Sessions (mandatory for engaged couples) and full NFP course of individual follow-up sessions are offered.

Engaged Encounter is a weekend retreat with other engaged couples providing talks, discussions and time alone together to plan for a sacramental marriage. Engaged Encounter (required for all couples preparing to marry in the Lincoln Diocese) helps couples on topics such as honesty and openness in relationships, sexuality, the Sacrament, and NFP.

Catholic Marriage P.R.E.P. aims at enhancing a couple's relationship by teaching effective communication skills. Open to all couples, P.R.E.P. is required for those preparing for a convalidation of their civil marriage, who are preparing to enter a second marriage, or who are advanced in years, and are not planning to attend an Engaged Encounter weekend.

Marriage Encounter offers enrichment weekends for couples to grow in loving communication, a program of Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

Retrouvaille is a program to help couples with marital problems to heal and renew their marriages. A weekend experience with follow-up sessions for troubled marriages, helping rebuild loving relationships.

Chastity Education Programs:- Mother-Daughters and Father-Sons programs for pre-teens explore God's special gift of human sexuality and fertility. Programs also available for schools or CCD programs.

Wedding Anniversary Mass and Reception - This annual Mass and celebration is held at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ. The bishop recognizes those married 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 25, , 30. 35. 40, 45 or 50 years and more. A reception follows the Mass and renewal of vows.

Catholic Concerns/Bereavement Programs

The Catholic Church strives to support families in the grieving process after the loss of a loved one. This takes place through spiritual devotions such as the Mass and rosary, and then joining in small group settings for support and education. When necessary, individual counseling is also available through the Family Life Office and Catholic Social Services. Non-Catholics are welcome to take part in these programs as well.

Divorced, Separated and Widowed: support for those who have experienced the loss of a spouse, or separation and divorce, offering Catholics fellowships, spiritual enrichment and educational presentations.

Healing Hearts (Grief Outreach): a program of support, healing and recovery for adult Catholics who have experienced the loss of a loved one, grieving a recent death in their family.

Project Rachel (Post-Abortion Healing): an outreach to understand and help heal the psychological and spiritual pain of abortion.

When a Baby Dies: a Healing Hearts program especially for parents who have lost an infant (SIDS) or had a miscarriage or stillbirth. The Mass on the Feast of the Holy Innocents in Decemeber is in honor of such babies who have died.

About Fr Sean Kilcawley, Director of the Office of Family Life and Evangelization

Fr Sean Kilcawley graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1996 with a BS in Middle East Foreign Area Studies.  After serving for three years as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army he entered St Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward Nebraska as a pre-theologian for the Diocese of Lincoln, NE.  Fr Kilcawley earned a Masters of Divinity and a STB from St Charles Borromeo Seminary in 2005 and then served the diocese of Lincoln for four years as a High School teacher of religion and parochial vicar.  In 2013, Fr Kilcawley completed an STL (summa cum laude) at the John Paul II institute for marriage and family in Rome.  He currently serves as Diocesan Director of the Office of Family Life and Evangelization for the Diocese of Lincoln.Father Kilcawley
