YORK (SNR/KVSS) - More than 140 priests and seminarians from all three Nebraska dioceses gathered in York June 28 for the Spirit Catholic Radio Network “Priest Appreciation Golf Tournament,” hosted by Ayars & Ayars, Inc. and Architecture + Etc.

This is the third year for the event held at the York Country Club, and there was a record number of religious participating in this year’s tournament.

“This is one of the only events where priests from the Lincoln, Omaha, and Grand Island dioceses have a chance to get together for fun and fellowship,” said Father Mark Cyza, a regular guest on the Spirit Morning Show and pastor of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Nebraska City.

Lincoln/Grand Island Station Manager John Soukup added, “This is just another example of the unifying aspect Spirit Catholic Radio is having on our listeners, and this event is a great way to show how much we appreciate the work and support of our priests.”

Several priests and seminarians who chose not to play golf were able to watch a movie at the local theater, go bowling, or play games and spend time in conversation at the clubhouse. After a barbecue pork dinner, all enjoyed the many pin prizes and other give-aways that were awarded or drawn for, including various gift baskets, golf clubs, Husker memorabilia, and $10,000 in construction services from Ayars & Ayars that Father Louis Nollette from St. Pius X Catholic Church in Ainsworth won in a special drawing.

“We are so grateful for the prayers and support from so many priests and religious,” said Bruce McGregor, KVSS program director. “This is a fun way to say thank you. Thanks also to Ayars & Ayars for hosting a top-notch event.” Kathi Woody of Ayars & Ayars and the event coordinator is also a member of the Lincoln Advisory Committee for Spirit Catholic Radio.

Ayars & Ayars provided all the prizes, as well as food and refreshments. The company has done work for a number of Catholic properties throughout the state.
