Student Theater Performing Annual Summer Musical STAGE Presenting Play at St. Teresa in Lincolnand

LINCOLN (STAGE/SNR) - “Sheerluck Holmes has gone missing!” and it is up to several other famous detectives to find him.

S.T.A.G.E. (Student Theater And Godly Evangelization) is performing their annual summer musical June 24-27 at St. Teresa’s Kaczmarek Hall in Lincoln.

Under the direction of Lee Hotovy, 24 students have been participating in a three-week theater camp that culminates in four performances of “It’s Elementary My Dear…”

The musical is set upon a life-sized game board representative of the game “Clue.” With the help of cast and crew, Kaczmarek Hall, has been transformed into a unique stage where audience members will sit around the board, taking in the play and its mystery from many angles.

Humorously, this original play written by Hotovy has taken famous detectives and clue characters to create an intriguing plot that will have audience members trying to guess “whodunit.”

In the play, “Sheerluck Holmes,” the greatest detective, has himself gone missing, and so Dr. Whatsin has sent out an S. O. S. (Society of Sleuths) to help find the mastermind. Several guests of the inn are suspect, each having a very good reason for “doing Holmes in.” The mystery and its deeper meaning unfold throughout the play, revealing a surprise ending.

Chorus members perform as staff for the hotel, while other students perform as suspects in the crime, including Colonel Dijon, Professor Prune and Mr. Greenatelli.

To add to the fun of the play, several original songs have been created by the musical team of Anna Hanselmann, Sada Hotovy and Melanie Kottwitz. Hanselmann has worked alongside Hotovy for several years, serving as musical director, while Melanie Kottwitz will be the accompanist. Sada Hotovy has also been in charge of costuming, with the help of Mary Koenig.

The challenging but creative staging has kept sound, light, Lincolnand set crews busy, but all will add to the mystery and fun of the show.

“It’s Elementary My Dear…” will be performed June 24 through 26 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, June 27 at 2 p.m. in St. Teresa’s Kaczmarek Hall, 36th and Randolph streets, Lincoln.

The doors open one half-hour before showtime. The production is recommended for ages 6 and up due to the mystery theme.

Reserved seating is available by calling 483-5061. Tickets will be available at the door if shows are not sold out. Tickets are $5 students and $7 adults. Concessions will be sold at intermission to help support STAGE.
