Bishop Conley celebrates ‘Blue Mass’ for law enforcement, emergency responders

LINCOLN (SNR) - Bishop James Conley celebrated the “Blue Mass” Monday, Sept. 29, in St. Mary Church in downtown Lincoln.

The annual Mass honors law enforcement and emergency responders. This year’s Blue Mass is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Bishop Kucera Assembly #0595 of Lincoln. Representatives attended from many organizations, including the Lincoln Police Department, Lincoln Fire and Rescue, the Nebraska State Patrol and Lancaster County Sherriff’s Office.

Organizers say the Mass, which included the reading of names of fallen officers, will be held each year on or near Sept. 29, the feast of the archangels. In his homily, Bishop Conley called to mind the patronage of St. Michael the Archangel, for EMTs, police officers and security forces.
