Bishop Conley to present men’s day of reflection Oct. 25

WAVERLY (SNR) - Bishop James Conley will present a day of reflection for men Oct. 25 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly.

All men are invited to attend. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and rolls. The event will include conferences by the bishop, Mass, lunch, confessions, and a holy hour, and concludes at 5 p.m.

The topic of the men’s day of reflection is “Christian Discipleship and Family Life”: learning to put Jesus first within one’s family, to follow His teachings, and to bear fruit in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, especially through love for others, manifested in service and sharing the faith. The day is open to both single and married men.

Bishop Conley’s reflections, which examine how discipleship is lived in the family, will draw on the topic of the Synod of Bishops on the Family (Oct. 5-19), and Cardinal Müller’s new book, “Hope of the Family.

“Retreats are an opportunity to spend time in prayer, to hear the voice of God, and to commit to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and with his Church,” Bishop Conley said. “The men’s day of reflection will be a time to reflect on the meaning of discipleship in Jesus Christ, and our vocations, our mission, and our family life.”

Advance registration is preferred but not required. A donation to the retreat house is requested, but never required. The suggested donation is $50.

Other upcoming retreats at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House include a weekend retreat for men and women with Father Thomas Dunavan on the saints Oct. 31-Nov. 2, and a men’s retreat weekend with Regnum Christi, the Kingdom of Christ Nov. 7-9.
