Discerning the Spirit’ Dec. 5-7 open to men, women
WAVERLY (SNR) - All men and women are invited to begin Advent with a weekend retreat Dec. 5-7 led by Father Thomas Kuffel on “Discerning the Spirit.”
Father Kuffel, who just celebrated the 25th jubilee of his priestly ordination, studied and worked in Rome. He has taught High School at Lourdes Central in Nebraska City, Pius X in Lincoln, and Bishop Neumann in Wahoo. He was director of Camp Kateri and has been a pastor in Davey, Valparaiso, and Exeter, and is currently pastor in Grant, Wallace and Elsie.
Father Kuffel said he will offer the Dec. 5-7 retreat to help Advent be a prayerful and reflective time for participants. He plans to give seven talks on different stages of holiness, with topics such as growing in virtue, prayer, discerning God’s will through meditation, and living life as a Catholic.
During Advent, he said, Catholics can join Mary who pondered many things in her heart, awaiting the birth of Jesus.
Knowing the busyness that surrounds Christmas preparations, Father Kuffel describes retreats as “a chance to reflect on the direction of your life, renew your commitment to your baptismal vows, and understand God’s will despite the sometimes difficult world.”
He invited those interested to join in the Mass, Adoration, confession, prayers, and opportunities to meet one-on-one, and thus prepare for Jesus’ presence at Christmas.
Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House offers a peaceful atmosphere of prayer and recollection, situated on a spacious acreage near Waverly, Nebraska. The facility includes 50 single rooms, each with a private bath. The suggested donation for a retreat is $170.
A second Advent retreat for men and women of all ages will be held Dec. 12-14. Father James Meysenburg will present, “Is There Room in Your Inn?”
