St. Michael Parish in Lincoln to offer RCIA

LINCOLN (SNR) - St. Michael Parish in Lincoln is offering an RCIA program for those interested in learning about the Catholic faith.

RCIA – the Rite of the Christian Initiation of Adults – is the ordinary means by which individuals learn about and are formed in the Catholic faith with the intention of joining the Church. In addition, RCIA is offered as a refresher course in the faith for lifelong Catholics.

RCIA consists of regularly scheduled weekly classes, several liturgical ceremonies which welcome candidates in the process leading to full membership in the Church, and spiritual exercises of formation, aimed at creating and developing one’s prayer life and which is aimed at participation in the sacraments.

St. Michael Parish will use the Symbolon program created by the Augustine Institute in Denver. Symbolon is a DVD and study program geared to teach and form those interested in the Catholic faith. The 20 sessions of the series guide candidates and parishioners through the breadth and richness of the Catholic faith. In addition, in weekly sessions, presenters from St. Michael’s RCIA team add personal perspective and additional material to the Symbolon DVDs.

The St. Michael RCIA program will meet Sundays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 13 at St. Michael Parish, 9101 S. 78th St. in southeast Lincoln. Materials are provided to participants. There is no cost for the program. All are invited.
