FALLS CITY (SNR) - Students in grades 3-12 from Sacred Heart School in Falls City made special visits to a cemetery Nov. 2 in observance of All Souls Day.
During their theology classes, students boarded a bus and rode 5 miles outside town to a Catholic cemetery. The observance began at the grave of John Wiezorek, a 1937 Sacred Heart graduate who was killed in Japan in 1942 while a prisoner of war.
The group then walked to the central monument of the cemetery, a large crucifix with the statues of Mary, Mary Magdalene and John the apostle. Father Thomas Dunavan, Father Kenneth Hoesing, and Father David Oldham each read the liturgy, “Order for Visiting a Cemetery” from the Book of Blessings for the respective classes and students sang a hymn.
Afterward, students were allowed to visit the gravesites of relatives and friends and say silent prayers before returning to school.blog comments powered by Disqus
