Father Courtney to present ‘Jesus is The Way, Truth and Life in St. John’
All women are invited to bring their Bibles and participate in the retreat.
Besides having a Bible to write and underline in, Father Courtney suggests retreatants also bring a copy of “St. John’s Gospel: A Bible Study Guide and Commentary” by Steve Ray, which he will use to dig deeply into the Gospel of John. Father Courtney will look at highlights from the Gospel of John such as the wedding at Cana, Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, and more.
Father Courtney said he enjoys giving retreats because they “are an opportunity for me to love scripture more, and help others to do the same.”
Retreatants should note that this retreat may not be as silent as some typical retreats, as Father Courtney enjoys discussion, participation, and bonding at meals.
Father Courtney, ordained in 2000, was recently appointed to serve as pastor of St. Joseph in Geneva and St. Mary in Shickley. He is also director of Camp Kateri Tekakwitha. Father Courtney has previously served parishes in Steinauer and Burchard, Bellwood and Hastings, and Lincoln.
Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House offers a peaceful atmosphere of prayer and recollection, situated on a spacious acreage near Waverly. The facility includes 50 single rooms, each with a private bath. Each retreat includes meditations by the retreat master, and opportunities for silence, prayer, adoration and the Sacraments. Retreats typically begin with a rosary and Mass at 8 p.m. on Friday, and end with Mass on Sunday, followed by lunch.
Other upcoming retreats will be held Sept. 8-11 for men and women on the Work of the Holy Angels; Sept. 30-Oct. 2 for men and women with Father Michael Morin: “To Pray as Jesus Taught”; and Oct. 7-9, “Year of Mercy Retreat + Conference” with Father Wade Menezes, CPM.
