LINCOLN, PIUS X – For the fourth straight year, Pius X High School in Lincoln was named the winner in the large school category of the Lincoln Food Drive held in October.
The school collected 17,897 pounds of food for Catholic Social Services. Nine schools participated and collected a total of 34,403 pounds of food for various charitable organizations.
Student groups from Cathedral of the Risen Christ School, St. Peter, and North American Martyrs added collections to the Pius total.
Sandhills/Great Plains Beef made a major contribution. All food from the Pius drive was donated to CSS, and a monetary donation was given to purchase grocery SCRIP for needy families.
The Pius X student council is in charge of the student drive. They accepted the trophy for the annual drive, a large metal fork.
Pius X High School, which opened in 1956, serves 1,286 students from 18 parishes.
