Diocesan Statement on Attorney General Investigation 09-05-18

September 5, 2018

The Diocese of Lincoln confirmed that Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson has sent the diocese a letter seeking documents. The diocese is cooperating with his state-wide investigation of all three Catholic dioceses in Nebraska.
The diocese will continue to cooperate with law enforcement as they work to assure that children and young people are safe.
“Law enforcement agencies are the best, most objective independent investigators,” Bishop James Conley said Aug. 29. “The Diocese of Lincoln appreciates the work that they do and pledges its support to all efforts to stop criminal behavior by predators.”
The diocese encourages all victims of sexual abuse to report their abuse to the attorney general or to local law enforcement. The diocese has also established an anonymous hotline and website from the nationally known company NAVEX Global to assist persons in making reports of misconduct in the Diocese of Lincoln. The number is 844-527-0596.
The diocese is also committed to helping victims, and has dedicated resources available to help.  Those in need of victim assistance are encouraged to call 844-527-0596.
