Statement on the Appointment of Msgr. Folda as Bishop of Fargo

The Diocese of Lincoln, Neb. rejoices with the Diocese of Fargo, N.D. on the appointment of Msgr. John Folda as the eighth bishop of Fargo.

I have known Msgr. Folda for over 20 years and I know that he will be a stellar bishop.

Bishop-elect Folda will be deeply missed in the Diocese of Lincoln. He is well known and well respected by many. He is a man of tireless energy and tremendous integrity.

Bishop-elect Folda has served the Diocese of Lincoln in parishes and Catholic schools, and in a variety of diocesan leadership positions. He has worked most noticeably as rector of the St. Gregory the Great Seminary for the past 14 years.

In addition to his leadership as a pastor, and as a rector, Bishop-elect Folda has served the Lord as diocesan master of ceremonies, director of religious education and co-vicar for religious. He has been a member of the board of the Nebraska Catholic Conference, the Presbyteral Council, College of Consultors, Finance Council, Priests’ Continuing Education Committee, Catholic Social Services Board, the Ethics Committee of St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center, and the board of directors at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.

His vast experience, as well as his keen intelligence, his personal humility, and his dedication to Jesus Christ and His Church will prepare Bishop-elect Folda well to teach, govern and sanctify the faithful of the Diocese of Fargo.
