‘Motherhood: Co-Creation with God’

Lecture series continues with Dr. Maria Fedoryka Nov. 7

Lincoln (NI/SNR) –  Dr. Maria Fedoryka will speak on “Motherhood: Co-Creation with God,” the third “Reborn in Wonder” lecture hosted by the Newman Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will take place 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center, 320 N. 16th St., Lincoln.

Dr. Fedoryka, who chairs the philosophy department at Ave Maria University in Naples, Fla., will reflect on a mother’s role in the mystery of bringing forth new life – a mystery, she says, that begins with God “relinquishing” His creative power to creatures.

Dr. Fedoryka contends that women benefit greatly through deepening their understanding of the divine plan with respect to childbearing and parenting.

“Our fall lecture series puts emphasis on the capacity to wonder, which the ancients saw as the beginning of all philosophy,” said Dr. John Freeh, director of the Newman Institute. “As a Catholic philosopher, Dr. Fedoryka believes that whenever we reflect on the beautiful mysteries of life, such as motherhood, we move into an atmosphere of wonder and begin to see with fresh eyes what we have come to take for granted.”

Dr. Fedoryka lectures widely on questions related to the nature and dignity of the human person, especially the philosophy of love, and the place of love in the lives of persons, examining issues spanning from the centrality of love in the being of God, to its role at the center of creation, to its meaning for marriage, family, and sexuality.

Refreshments follow the lecture.
