LINCOLN (SNR) — Due to the growing popularity of the Unbound Ministry in the Diocese of Lincoln, Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly will hold two Unbound retreats, Sept. 13-15, 2019 and Jan. 31-Feb. 2, 2020.
The September retreat, entitled “Unbound: Knowing the Heart of the Father,” will be held in conjunction with the Office of Evangelization and Spiritual Formation, and led by Matthew Simmons, director of that Office, and Father Gary Coulter, director of the retreat house.
Unbound focuses on providing a safe, practical model that helps people respond to the Gospel and apply the Lord’s grace, love and truth to their lives. Based on the book, “Unbound: A Practical Guide to Deliverance” by Neal Lozano, it employs five keys that enable people to experience a profound conversion experience: 1. Repenting of sin and expressing faith in Jesus; 2. Forgiving oneself and others; 3. Renouncing the lies, spirits and tactics of Satan; 4. Taking authority over the works of Satan; 5. Receiving the Father’s blessing.
Simmons first learned about Unbound when he was a FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) missionary. He said he found the five keys very helpful for some of the university students in his Bible studies. He also experienced spiritual freedom personally as he applied the five keys to his own life.
“So many people suffer from loneliness, isolation, fear, abandonment, rejection, shame, and many other maladies,” he said. “As I began to find freedom from these things, I wanted to help others find the same freedom.”
Father Coulter, who has also personally experienced the healing and freedom of Unbound, explained the theme for the retreat.
“Jesus has revealed to us a Father who delights in his children, blessing us with boundless love and compassion,” he said. “As in the parable of the prodigal son, we are called to experience the joy to the Father’s arms embracing us, His beloved children.”
Men and women who come on the retreat will have the opportunity to be prayed for with the five keys, but should read the first part of “Unbound” or watch the video series beforehand.
