Newman Center plans ‘NightFever’

LINCOLN (SNR) - The St. Thomas Aquinas Church - Newman Center on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus plans its first “NightFever” April 17 from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Organizers said the concept of NightFever is simple: “open up the church, invite people in, and let the Holy Spirit work.”

There will be a prayer team, confessions, and priests available for counsel, all with the Holy Eucharist exposed on the altar.
NightFever began in Cologne, Germany after World Youth Day 2005. It began as an idea from two students and has spread to more than 90 cities in Europe and North America.

“All are welcome to come to the event as we pray collectively for an end to wordly violence,” they said.

The event will be one of the first public events in the new church, 320 N. 16th St., Lincoln, which will be dedicated April 12. The church, which seats 650, more than doubles the capacity of the previous Newman Center church.
