Knights plan chili cook-off Feb. 6

Wahoo event to benefit Saunders County Food Pantry

WAHOO (SNR) – The Knights of Columbus Pope John Paul II Council #1833 of St. Wenceslaus Parish in Wahoo will hold their inaugural chili cook-off Feb. 6.

The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the 4-H building on the Saunders County Fairgrounds.

Member Dave Pearson said this event is one the council has wanted to do for a long time.

“A couple Knights got together and decided to give the proceeds to the food pantry,” he said, “and it took off from there.”

The local food pantry in Saunders County is an important part of not just Wahoo, Pearson said, but all of Saunders County.

“It is a charity that always needs assistance,” he said. “What further makes it a good charity is all the area churches, not just Catholic, support the food pantry.  So we have actually reached out to area churches to help us spread the word about this event.”

In addition to assisting the community, the event promises to be a fun one, with plenty of healthy competition.

“Several Knights will be entering,” Pearson said, “and of course they are all expecting to win!”

Other participants are also welcome to enter their chili in the contest. Prizes will be awarded for best chili in three categories: Red (no beans), Green or Homestyle. Those who would like to enter a chili must pre-register; more information is available at www.nebraskakofc.org/kc1833/ or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. All are welcome to attend the event as a chili feed. Admission is $7 per adult and $5 per child – preschool and younger children enter free. All are welcome to take $2 off their admission if they bring a canned food item to donate to the Saunders County Food Pantry.
