Father Seiker recovering after I-80 collision

LINCOLN (SNR) - Father Mark Seiker, pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in North Platte is recovering at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln after suffering injuries in a May 30 collision on Interstate 80 near Gothenburg, involving two semi trucks.

Father Seiker’s brother, Msgr. Daniel Seiker, who is in residence at St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward, said Father Seiker was injured when the driver of one of the semis overturned in front of him, blocking the entire road.

Father Seiker was transported to an area hospital and then flown to CHI Health Good Samaritan hospital in Kearney.

Now recovering from fractures, lacerations and a concussion, Father Seiker was moved to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln June 3.

Msgr. Seiker said his brother’s condition “has improved greatly and he is under ordinary care, walking and eating normally, and has begun therapy to help him make further recovery.”

“Father Mark has expressed his deep gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and concern from so many,” Msgr. Seiker said.

He added, “the nurses caring for him say that he needs rest and so we ask your continued prayers rather than a visit at this time. Rest and quiet are very helpful for recovery from a concussion.”
