LINCOLN (SNR) - Sister Catarina Tang, CMRM, professed her perpetual vows as a Sister of Mary Queen of Mercy at the Sisters of Mary Queen of Mercy Motherhouse June 19.
Bishop James Conley was the main celebrant, and Father Daniel Rayer concelebrated. During the Mass, Sister received the ring symbolizing her betrothal to Jesus Christ.
Sister Catarina is the daughter of Mrs. Tinh Tran and the late Mr. Bay Tang of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Lincoln. Sister Catarina entered the community in Lincoln in 2013. She serves the Diocese of Lincoln as a teacher at Pius X High School.
The principal house of the Mother Community of the Congregation of Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Mercy is in the Archdiocese of Saigon, Vietnam. In 1975, some sisters escaped the threat of the Vietnamese Civil War by moving to Australia. Later, they moved to Springfield, Mo., and from there several came to serve in Lincoln. By 1998, the Community in America became a Region of the Motherhouse in Vietnam.
The Sisters living in Lincoln received permission from their founder and the Sister Superior General in Vietnam to maintain their constitutions independently of the Region. The Diocesan Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Mercy was established by Bishop Bruskewitz May 4, 1999.
The Sisters currently serve in diocesan schools and in both the Vietnamese parishes in Lincoln, Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Andrew Dung-Lac and Companions. They also operate Little Flower Child Care Center in Lincoln near St. Michael Parish.
