Bishop Olmsted’s father dies at 94

BEATTIE, Kan. (SNR) – Dale Willey “Pat” Olmsted, 94, of Beattie, Kan., died Monday, Sept. 26 at his home.

He was the father of Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted of Phoenix. Bishop Olmsted was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Lincoln in 1973. He was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Wichita, Kan. in 1999 and served as Bishop of Wichita 2001-03. He was named Bishop of Phoenix in 2003.

Bishop Olmsted celebrated a funeral Mass Sept. 29 in St. Malachy Church in Beattie. Bishop James Conley, Bishop  Fabian Bruskewitz and priests of the Diocese of Lincoln attended the funeral Mass.

Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery north of Beattie.

Mr. Olmsted is survived by his wife Helen, daughters Mary Dodd, Jane Sandstrom, Monica Anderson; sons Tim, Jerry, Bishop Olmsted; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; one sister.
