LINCOLN (SNR) – Bishop James Conley appointed Father Nicholas Kipper, editor of the Southern Nebraska Register, to serve as Moderator of the Curia for the Diocese of Lincoln, effective Sept. 1.
As moderator of the curia, Father Kipper will supervise most of the pastoral and administrative staff of the diocesan curia, in the chancery and the John XXIII Diocesan Center. He will directly oversee the Office of Family Life, Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Office of Catholic Schools, Office of Religious Education, Office of Child and Youth Protection, and the Office of Communications/Southern Nebraska Register.
He will assist Msgr. Timothy Thorburn, vicar general, in overseeing and directing other offices of the diocesan curia.
Father Kipper will also serve as director of communications, representing the diocese in the media and overseeing the Southern Nebraska Register, diocesan social media, and other communications projects as needed.
“Father Kipper’s role will be to provide support, assistance, supervision, and coordination among all offices,” the bishop said, “helping ensure that all members of our diocesan staff are fulfilling our mission of serving Jesus Christ and the Church.”
Father Kipper, who also serves as pastor of St. James Parish in Cortland, was ordained in 2006. He joined the Register in 2009 as assistant editor and was named editor in 2011.
As director of communications for the diocese, Father Kipper follows JD Flynn, who has served in the role since 2013. Flynn was recently named editor-in-chief of Catholic News Agency in Denver.
Cathy Bender has been appointed editor-in-chief of the Southern Nebraska Register, also effective Sept. 1. Bender has served as composition manager of the Register since 1997.
