(SNR) - The Diocese of Lincoln’s annual Blue Mass, offering thanks for the dedication and sacrifices made by first responders, will be Thursday, May 18 at 9:45 a.m.
As in previous years, the Mass will be held at St. Mary Church in Lincoln and hosted by the Lincoln Knights of Columbus Bishop Kucera Assembly #0595.
Bishop James D. Conley will be the main celebrant, and Lt. Governor Mike Foley will be the lector.
Dubbed “Blue Mass” in reference to the traditional uniform color worn by many first responders, the Mass will recognize all active and retired men and women who work in law enforcement, fire and rescue service, and emergency medical service, as well as their families. It is open to people of all faiths.
Founded by Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, supreme chaplain of the Knights of Columbus since 2005, the Blue Mass was initiated to celebrate the life and heroism of those who died during the Sept. 11 tragedy.
All who would like to offer thanks for first responders are welcome to attend the Mass.
