The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Michael Parish in Lincoln recently met to begin plans for its upcoming membership drive.
The St. Vincent DePaul Society (SVdP) is an international organization comprised of lay persons whose objectives involve them in social and charitable work through services to the poor.
Members of the organization, called Vincentians, are a network of friends, inspired by gospel values, growing in holiness, and building a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need. Meetings are held twice a month, but the important work takes place visiting people in need at their homes.
When people come upon hard times and are not able to meet basic needs, they contact a call center to ask for help. In the Lincoln Diocese, the call center line is 402-435-7968.
Calls are reviewed and requests are routed to a SVdP conference in the Lincoln Diocese. The conference schedules a home visit and members of the Society personally visit the neighbors, pray with them, listen to them, and help however they can.
