Bishop James Conley celebrated the Chrism Mass April 3 in the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln. He blessed the three sacred oils used in the sacraments throughout the diocese — Chrism, the Oil of the Sick and the Oil of Catechumens. Priests of the diocese renewed the priestly vows made at their ordinations, and priests celebrating milestone anniversaries were given special recognition at a dinner after Mass.

The Aquinas Catholic kindergarten classes performed “Living Stations of the Cross” March 24 at St. Mary Church in David City. Teachers Mrs. Fozzard and Mrs. Miller taught the students what the stations mean through prayer and actions. Thirty-eight students led the stations of the cross prayers for a congregation that included the student body and supporters of the school.

St. Teresa School in Lincoln hosted Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen Jan 31. During the visit, the governor signed a proclamation declaring Catholic Schools Week in the state of Nebraska.

He spoke about his own experience attending Catholic school, and challenged the students to show gratitude to their teachers and parents for the sacrifices made to send the students to an exceptional school where faith is the center of everything.

The Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln hosted “Light the Night” Jan. 30, a holy hour of adoration. Bishop James Conley led participants in praying for the Catholic schools of the Diocese of Lincoln.

The Nebraska Walk for Life outside the State Capitol Jan. 28 started in blisteringly cold conditions, but the crowd of those willing to walk for the rights of the unborn was still estimated at 4,000 people.

Walk participants gathered at the State Capitol and walked to the UNL Student Union to hear keynote speaker Dr. John Bruchalski.

The junior high choir from the Cathedral of the Risen Christ School in Lincoln sang at the tree lighting ceremony at the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln Dec. 11. Father Cole Kennett, pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Colon, was invited to lead the closing Benediction.
