SYRACUSE (SNR) - Marion Miner, associate director for pro-life and family for the Nebraska Catholic Conference (NCC), will present “Humanae Vitae at 50 v. Roe at 45” July 25 at St. Paulinus Church Hall, 476 Poplar St., Syracuse.
July 25 will mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Humanae Vitae, the 1968 encyclical Bl. Pope Paul VI issued after a commission of theologians and experts spent four years meeting to study in-depth whether the Church could be open to the contraceptive pill or other artificial forms of birth control. In his encyclical, Pope Paul VI reaffirmed the Church’s teaching against contraception in wake of the sexual revolution.
Miner will speak on the 50th anniversary of Humanae Vitae, as well as the 1973 Supreme Court decisions Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, which legalized abortions in the United States during all nine months of pregnancy with virtually no restrictions.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. and Miner’s talk will begin at 7:30 p.m. The evening is sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council #7614. Booths will be available from the Knights of Columbus, Spirit Catholic Radio, Lourdes Central School in Nebraska City and Church resources for those wounded by abortion.
Area parishes have been formally invited to attend, but walk-ins will be welcome if space is available. Audio from the event will be recorded and posted at www.comehometojesus.com.
Free-will donations will be accepted to benefit Lincoln pro-life prayer efforts at the only abortion facility in the Lincoln Diocese.
