LINCOLN (SNR) – Lou Gasper, state deputy of the Nebraska Knights of Columbus, and Richard Zierke, director of the Knights of Columbus I-80 Collar Series, presented a donation to Bishop James Conley for vocations.
The check represented the Diocese of Lincoln’s portion of the proceeds from the June event, a softball game between the priests of the Diocese of Lincoln and the Archdiocese of Omaha which raised more than $20,000. A gift of $1,000 was given to the Diocese of Grand Island in recognition of Father Scott Harter, a priest of the Grand Island Diocese, who played for the Archdiocese of Omaha team and was awarded the MVP trophy. This is the fourth year of the Collar Series.
“This game has grown over the years and is a great Catholic family event for Nebraska,” Zierke said.
He added that the series is now three to one, with Omaha winning their first game of the series in 2018. The first two games were held in the Omaha metro area, and the second two games were held in Lincoln. The series will return to Werner Park in Papillion in 2019, playing on Father’s Day, June 16, at 6:05 p.m.
