LINCOLN (SNR) – The Sisters of Mary, Queen of Mercy (CMRM) recently held their general chapter in which Sister Mary Samantha Nguyễn Thị Diễm Nguyệt was elected as the major superior of the congregation from 2019-23.
“We give thanks to Almighty God, Mary, our Mother Superior, and St. Joseph, for the blessings upon our General Chapter,” the sisters said. “Please join us in praying for Sister Mary Samantha and the new General Council members.”
The principal house of the Congregation of Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Mercy is in Vietnam. In 1975, some sisters escaped the threat of the Vietnamese Civil War by moving to Australia. Later, they moved to Springfield, Mo., and from there several came to serve in Lincoln.
By 1998, the Community in America became a Region of the Motherhouse in Vietnam. The Sisters living in Lincoln received permission from their founder and the Sister Superior General in Vietnam to maintain their constitutions independently of the Region. The Diocesan Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Mercy was established by Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz May 4, 1999.
The Sisters serve the Diocese of Lincoln at the bishop emeritus residence, the diocesan Chancery and John XXIII Center, Kealy Hall, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, St. Andrew Dung-Lac and Companions Parish, Pius X High School in Lincoln. They also operate Little Flower Childcare Center in Lincoln near St. Michael Parish.
