WAVERLY (SNR) - Men and women of all ages are invited to a Marian Retreat at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat the weekend of Oct. 4-6, led by Father Justin Wylie and entitled, “Crown her with many crowns!’
Father Wylie, administrator of the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln, said the retreat was inspired by Bl. Cardinal John Henry Newman, who will be canonized Oct. 13, and seeks to deepen appreciation of the four Marian dogmas of the Church by meditating on the titles accorded to Our Lady in the Litany of Loreto.
Based on a novena preached to the Carmelites earlier this year, Father Wylie will reflect on the four Marian dogmas which include Mary’s Perpetual Virginity, her Divine Maternity, her Immaculate Conception, and her Queenship and Assumption into Heaven. A final conference will be on Our Lady’s role in redemption.
Father Wylie was the first South African candidate accepted at Almo Collegio Caprania, the oldest seminary in Rome, and ordained a priest in 2009. Before coming to the Diocese of Lincoln, Father Wylie worked at the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations. Besides his pastoral duties at the Cathedral, he has also been assistant diocesan master of ceremonies and a teacher at Pius X High School.
The weekend retreat at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House near Waverly begins with a rosary and First Friday Mass at 8 p.m. It will include First Saturday devotions, and conclude with Mass and noon lunch on Sunday, which is providentially the day before the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.
Upcoming retreat dates are Sept. 27-28 with St. Vincent de Paul Society; Oct. 17-20, a Eucharistic retreat with Father Zachary, SOLT; and Oct. 25-27 Spanish retreat with Father Christopher Stoley.
