LINCOLN (SNR) – The Frassati Society of Lincoln will host a 5K walk/run on Palm Sunday, April 13, to benefit St. Gianna’s Women’s Homes.
The Frassati Society of Lincoln provides opportunities for young professionals to grow in their Catholic Faith and serve their community.
“We seek to emulate Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, a young Italian, who engaged his faith, his love of the poor, and his passion for the outdoors,” said Katy Dornbos. “Both his life and the example of Pope Francis have shown us how to go out into the periphery, to be with those who are suffering material, emotional, or spiritual poverty.
“St. Gianna’s Women’s Home so practically meets the needs of women and children in our community; we want to raise awareness of their good work and support them through prayers and the proceeds of the 5K.”
The race will circle Holmes Lake in Lincoln, and walkers, runners, and strollers are welcome.
Scheduling the race on Palm Sunday, Dornbos said, will be “a beautiful way to enter into Holy Week, to offer up the race for the families at St. Gianna’s.”
The race will begin at 2 p.m. with payment and waiver signing held at 1:30 p.m. The cost for a single registration is $15 if pre-registered by April 12, and $20 the day of the race. The rate for a family is $25 with pre-registration and $30 the day of the race.
