This summer, former Nebraska Husker volleyball player and current member of LOVB Nebraska Rebekah Allick posted a video to her Instagram page, promoting Bishop James Conley’s April letter accompanying the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln pastoral plan, One Heart in Christ.
The diocese did not ask Allick to speak about the letter; the video was her own creation.
“Bishop James Conley actually wrote a letter to all of us,” she said in the video.
“As a Catholic in the Lincoln Diocese,” she said, “you are not alone. Your family is not alone. Yes, you have your own mission that Christ has called you into, but you’re also a part of a bigger community and you don’t have to wing it, you don’t have to guess what that goal is. Our bishop has already let us know.
“Our mission is ‘One Heart in Christ,’” she said.
In her video, Allick explained the main sections: healthy parishes, education, religious vocations and holy marriage and family life.
“He breaks them down very well,” she said. “It’s been really encouraging to read.”
But it’s just a reminder that “we’re not alone,” she said. “We’re one big happy Catholic community and we’re all in this together to bring Christ even more into the diocese.”
“It was great to see Rebekah take the initiative on her own to encourage others to check out my pastoral letter One Heart in Christ,” Bishop Conley said. “I hope our entire diocese can get behind this plan and I really appreciated her efforts to help spread the word!”
The video is on the main page for One Heart in Christ at the diocesan website, www.lincolndiocese.org/oneheartinchrist.
