by Fr. Justin Fulton

Simply put, Jesus Christ—both fully human and fully Divine—was conceived by the Holy Spirt and was born of a human woman, the Virgin Mary. He didn’t fall from the sky. He chose to be born of a woman.

All human life is born from women. Jesus’ human nature was born of a woman.

Is there a higher, more noble, and more dignified role than the vocation of mother? The same way Jesus came to earth, we all came as well... every one of us was born of a woman.

And with a good reading of John 19:26-27, we all have a common Mother, our Blessed Mother Mary! Thank you for your “yes” to God’s will, and thank you for being the perfect role model for all of us in our attempts to truly live out the words “Thy (not ‘my’) Will be done.” Thank you for your Motherhood to all of us.

At Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska, many of our clients are single mothers and mothers who work two jobs to support their families. Some mothers we help flee from domestic violence to protect their children. We house those women and families at St. Gianna Women’s Homes. Some mothers we help come to us needing counseling after dealing with the stresses and trials of family life and business life.

At Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska, we exist to bring people hope. Today, we want to salute all women out there. Women give us hope and they give us life. Thank you for living greatly! Thank you for being leaders in your families, in your parishes, in your communities, in your schools, in your businesses, and in the Church!

Happy and Blessed Mother’s Day to all moms, both living and deceased. Happy Mother’s Day to moms-to-be. And we also pray in a special way for those women who cannot give birth. God be with and bless all of you. Thank you to all women for your sacrifices, your dignity, your grace, your womanhood, and your feminine genius!

Here is a wonderful reflection on motherhood:

“The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honour of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral—a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body. The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation.... What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother?”
~ Cardinal Joseph Mindszenty

Thank you for everything, ladies!

And thank you all for your prayers and support of Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska. May God bless us all!
