Messages of Hope columns

By Fr. Justin Fulton

Be at Peace
Be at peace. Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life; rather look to them with full hope as they arise. God, whose very own you are, will deliver you from out of them. He has kept you hitherto, and He will lead you safely through all things; and when you cannot stand it, God will bury you in his arms.

Do not fear what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting Father who cares for you today will take care of you then and everyday. He will either shield you from suffering, or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.

Be at peace, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imagination.
-- St. Francis deSales

Effective 9 p.m., Saturday Dec. 21, Gianna’s Java & Gelato will be closing for business.

This decision was not made without robust debate and diligent financial analysis by the Board of Directors and leadership of CSS. The simple fact is the coffee shop costs too much money to run and cannot go on as-is, as it is straining CSS’ budget and is ultimately affecting our outreach to the poor and vulnerable of Southern Nebraska.

Please note this closing does NOT include St. Gianna’s Women’s Homes. Our home for protecting women and children from domestic violence is and will continue to be open.

We wish to celebrate the staff, volunteers, employees, many loyal customers, and Gianna’s very dedicated manager Jake Mousel. Jake and his staff should be commended for their hard work, creativity, energy, and passion. Their work helped bring people from all walks of life together and they should be proud of their efforts. They have done God’s Kingdom well in ways seen and unseen, visible and invisible. We pray for all of them during this time of transition and entrust them to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the compassionate and fierce Heart of our Blessed Mother Mary.

Gianna’s will hold a “Going out of Business Sale” through Dec. 21. Please come down to get some good coffee, excellent gelato, and scrumptious salads and sandwiches.

It is our hope that we all celebrate the many successes of the restaurant and thank the employees, volunteers, and Gianna’s manager Jake Mousel. May we all trust in God’s providence and may His peace reign in all that we do.

Thank you for your prayers and support of Catholic Social Services. May God bless us all!
