Lourdes Central Catholic hosted an activity day on Tuesday February 12, 2019 to kick off the “One Book, One School” reading program for families with students in grades Kindergarten through 5.  Students enjoyed activities to fit the theme of this year‘s book, The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary.

Speaker Tricia (Grundman, Class of ’99) Walker from Madonna Rehabilitation shared information on proper bike helmet fitting and how helmets provide protection. Officer Jason Holman with the Nebraska City Police Department taught the students about hand signals and road rules for bike riding.  Mike Kearney from The Ambassador Wellness Center gave tips for getting ready for bike riding.

“One Book, One School” is a program of “Read to Them”.  Each family with a student in grades K-5 is given a copy of The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary.  Students and families will read the book together at home and students complete activities together about the book.  Families will come together on Monday, February 25th for a Movie and Popcorn Party to watch The Mouse and the Motorcycle together.

Special thanks to Jaclyn Kreifels, the Nebraska City Community Foundation and Lourdes Elementary P.T.O. for their support of Lourdes Central Catholic school’s “One Book, One School”!
