During the month of September, the students and staff of Cathedral participated in the Can Read Challenge, a month long reading challenge to see who could read the most pages. This year, the students had a tough competitor, the Lincoln Police Department, and both sides took their reading very serious. Over the course of a month, a total of 799,176 were read. However, the students and staff of Cathedral came out on top reading a total of 437,265 pages. As a reward, the top reader from each grade and top staff member was treated to a very special prize. On October 9th, officers from the LPD picked the top readers up in police cruisers and took them to the police department for a tour. The students got to sit in the assignment room, check out different investigative rooms, and got to walk through the dispatch room. Their visit concluded with pizza, ice cream, and an award ceremony.

The Cathedral Eagles really stepped up to this year’s challenge and were also rewarded with an ice cream party at school, an entertaining show provided by Mad Cap Puppets, and a day out of uniform to dress up as their favorite literary character. A reward for a job well done.
