HASTINGS (SNR) – St. Michael School in Hastings celebrated its feast day Sept. 29.

The day of celebration was highlighted by a visit from representatives of the Hastings Police Department, Hastings Fire & Rescue and the Nebraska State Patrol.

St. Michael the Archangel is patron of protectors who work for security, safety and peace of the people, so the school thanked law enforcement and first responders and offered a blessing to them.

The annual celebration of the school’s patron saint varies year to year. This year, the Bluehawk band from St. Cecilia welcomed St. Michael Elementary students to school with music in the parking lot before the all-school Mass.

After Mass and the blessing of law enforcement and first responders by Father Adam Sughroue, the children presented the cards and notes they had prepared for the guests.

Students were then dismissed to play games provided by the Home & School Association. There were sack races, egg walks, bean bag games, tug of war and more.

Mr. Rob Kober and the lunch team then provided a special grilled hotdog lunch.
