Pius X High School Begins New School Year With Highest Ever Enrollment
It seems that more and more high school students in Lincoln are becoming Thunderbolts. The 2014-15 school year at Pius X begins with the highest enrollment in history, with the largest incoming freshman class raising the school’s population to 1,170 students. School colors, pride and enthusiasm were all on display at Pius’ Fall Kick-off celebration held on Aldrich Field on August 22.
As the school year gets underway, Principal Tom Korta and his fellow administrators and faculty were equally pleased to announce that Pius X has seen its students’ ACT scores increase along with the student population. In 2014, the average ACT score of the city’s only Catholic high school stood at 24 – with a .2 point increase from the previous year – compared to a 21.7 point average statewide.
“Since our primary mission is to build the Body of Christ, I am excited that we are able to reach more and more students,” Korta says. “I am also pleased that our efforts toward continuous improvement in academic excellence are bearing fruit, and I look forward to continued growth in both areas in the years ahead.”
