Niedergeses Wins First Place in Statewide Pro-Life Essay Contest
Pius X Sophomore Lauren Niedergeses has received first place honors in a statewide pro-life essay writing contest sponsored by the Bishops’ Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities and the Knights of Columbus. Her essay – based on the theme of children with disabilities and how that relates to valuing every human life – was selected among first place finalists in her age group submitted last year from the dioceses of Lincoln, Omaha and Grand Island.
Niedergeses’ piece written her freshman year included reflections on her personal experience and close relationship with her 9 year-old brother, Sam, who is autistic. Her winning essay earned her a $150 prize, and an additional $150 that will be donated to Pius X in her honor. She will be presented with her award at the Bishops’ Pro-Life Banquet to be held Friday, October 3 at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln. Lauren is the daughter of Eric and Dawn Niedergeses of North American Martyrs parish.
