Pius X’s Yearbook Staff Receives National Honor for Second Consecutive Year

Lincoln Pius X High School’s yearbook has been inducted to Walsworth Yearbook’s Gallery of Excellence for the second year in a row. This places it among the small percentage of yearbooks printed by the Missouri-based Walsworth Publishing Company that are selected for their gallery.

As part of the honor, the Pius X yearbook will be shared with many people and used by their nationwide sales force as a great example and loaned to schools across the country. Yearbooks are also displayed at regional, state and national conventions and workshops. In addition, covers, spreads and images from gallery yearbooks are used for example illustrations in the company’s educational materials and idea book.

The yearbook titled Thunderer 2014 – Revive, produced by the 2013-14 student staff and their sponsor and Pius X English teacher Sandra Sullivan, was among a very small number of yearbooks in the nation to earn the Gallery distinction two years in a row. “This award is indicative of how the upperclassmen mentored the underclassmen in the yearbook class,” Sullivan notes. “And I see that happening this year as well.”

“Yearbooks in the gallery demonstrate comprehensive coverage, innovative design and superior copy and photography, and that is why we use them nationally as idea generators,” company President Don Walsworth explained in Pius X’s award letter. “The induction of your yearbook honors your staff’s dedication and hard work.”

“For a school to earn this award two years in a row is a rare accomplishment,” Walsworth’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications Alex Blackwell adds. “This staff is really on a roll.”
