Pius X Literacy Programs Receives Grant from U.S. Bank Nebraska Foundation
The Pius X High School’s Writing Resource Center (WRC) and its literary website Wordstruck.net have been awarded a $4,000 grant from the U.S. Bank Nebraska Foundation. In addition, an anonymous donor has contributed an additional $1,000 toward the programs that are designed to improve, promote and celebrate literacy and the arts at Pius X.
Funding from the grant and anonymous donation will go toward the purchase of a computer, website hosting and maintenance, Adobe Premiere software licenses, and microphone equipment that students will use for interviews and broadcasting. In addition, the grant will help cover the cost for a web-based scheduling, recordkeeping and reporting program for the WRC, and will fund the “Best of WordStruck” Live awards event at the end of the school year. Printing of the annual WordStruck literary anthology and publicity materials for the WRC also will be made possible through the grant and donation.
“The digital software and equipment will greatly enhance the WordStruck.net website and streamline the process of our Writing Resource Center,” English teacher and program sponsor John Schreurs explains. “This is such a generous gift that will do so much to celebrate the great talents of our school on WordStruck.net, assist in providing services for all students through our Writing Resource Center, and provide ways to show our appreciation to the writing tutors who help our whole school every single day!”
