Pius X Benefit Concert Raises More Than $1,300 for Mano Amiga
Pius X students gathered to showcase their musical talents and to support missionary efforts in the Philippines. Sponsored by Pius X’s Club World Aid student organization, and the Pius X vocal music department, the annual benefit concert was held in the school’s Learning and Performing Arts Center on Monday evening, Jan. 26th.
“This is a special concert for a number of reasons,” shares Ms. Amy Roberts, Club World Aid faculty sponsor and Pius X Spanish teacher. “Each year, our students and adult volunteers donate their time and talent to help Club World Air raise money for a cause dear to our hearts. They are allowing us to be Christ to the world.”
Club World Aid sponsors the concert each year to raise funds and awareness of missionary needs around the globe. This year, the concert will benefit Mano Amiga, a Catholic Missionary group in the Philippines. Two Pius X alumnae, Kelsey Reese ’14 and Kara O’Donnell ’14, are currently living in the Philippines, volunteering with Mano Amiga, and spreading the love of Christ. More than 200 guests attended the concert raising more than $1,300 to support Kelsey and Kara’s efforts.
The concert featured 26 performances, including instrumental pieces, vocal solos, duets, small groups, and full bands. More than 50 Pius X students took the stage, with a number of students performing their own original pieces.
“The students choose their own music to perform, which really showcases their personalities,” adds Roberts. “To say I was impressed would be a gross understatement. My heart was about to burst watching our students. Their talent, dedication to a greater cause, and bravery are to be admired.”
Ansley Alberts and Noah Gose were two of the students involved in the Club World Aid Benefit Concert. Noah served as the MC for the evening in addition to performing a duet with Chloe Pinkman and providing accompaniment for two other performances.
“The Benefit Concert is a fun and exciting way for Club World Aid to raise money for a wonderful cause,” shares Noah. “It’s also a great way for all students to show their support of Club World Aid, bring people together to reach a goal, and help those in need around the world.”
This was the third year in which Ansley participated in the benefit concert. She started the show by singing a duet with Kristen Benes and also performed a solo later in the performance. Ansley explains: “I love to share the talents God has given me to benefit others in need.”
Club World Aid members would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who helped to make this year’s Benefit Concert a success, especially Todd Krier, Chad Houk, Kevin Moore, and Michael Fujan.
