St. Patrick School, Lincoln - Final Mass in "Old" Church
On Friday, January 30th the last day of Catholic Schools Week, St. Patrick Catholic School held their final Mass in the “old” St. Patrick Church. St. Patrick’s parishioners are in the process of building their new Spiritual Home. The project is schedule for completion in August of this year. In order for the project to move forward, the “old” church must be cleaned out and demolished. It seemed fitting to have the last Mass in the church for the school to be during Catholic Schools Week. The day was dedicated to the Teachers and Staff of the school and so the Mass was a Staff Mass. The teachers and staff read the readings, sang in the choir, served, ushered, and took up offertory. The 8th grade students sat with the classes as the majority of the teachers sat in the choir loft for the final time. At the conclusion of the Mass each class took a picture in front of the altar. After all classes were done, all students, staff, and teachers including Father Schweiger, filled the front steps of the church for the final time for a group photo. A few tears were shed as everyone made their way back into the school. The new daily school Mass and weekend Masses will be held in the school gym until the new Spiritual Home is complete.
