CRC Teams up with JA for Unique Project
In conjunction with Junior Achievement, Cathedral School has launched the Eagle Entrepreneurship Program. This revolutionary capstone project was developed by Tera Norris of Junior Achievement, Jamie Deterding of Fiserv, Principal Ekeler and Mrs. Laura Brouillette (Technology Teacher) to give 8th graders, and their junior high colleagues, the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned in previous years’ Junior Achievement lessons.
The program will utilize JA’s “It’s My Business” as a guide while giving students an opportunity to plan and implement their business plan. The Eagle Entrepreneurship Program stays in line with our school mission fostering skills including: leadership, commitment, stewardship, problem solving, team work, and responsibility. These skills will are necessary for students to be successful in the future whether they pursue business as a career path or not.
"This is an incredible opportunity for our school to break the ground on a truly unique project," said Principal Ekeler. "I'm also excited about this as an authentic learning experience for our Eagles: students direct a project, work together on a common goal, and see our community get involved in their work."
Throughout the rest of the school year 8th grade teams will:
- Define a market problem.
- Develop products/services to solve said problem.
- Market their products/services.
- Manage the financial aspects of their business, including what Cathedral “cause” they would like to support with their company profits.
- Recruit and oversee “employees”.
After the planning and development phase of the project students will execute their business plans, consistently evaluating their results and making necessary adjustments. At the conclusion of the project the top teams will present their businesses to a panel of community leaders in a “Shark Tank” setting.
While the Eighth Grade class works to develop their businesses the 6th and 7th grade classes will spend a portion of their Computer Class time learning about resumes, interviews and preparing for the Recruitment Fair, where the 8th grade teams will present their businesses to the 6th and 7th graders with the intention of building a productive workforce.
