Mackenzie Larson, an 8th grader at St. Patrick School, in McCook, NE, is the 2015 Red
Willow County Spelling Bee winner. She will participate in the Omaha World Hearld’s Midwest Spelling Bee on March 14th in Omaha. The winner on that competition will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington DC for the Scripps National Spelling Bee May 25-31st. Mackenzie is the daughter of Konnie and Mike Larson.
Devon Meixner, an 8th grade student at St. Patrick School in McCook, NE, was awarded the honor of placing in the Southwestern Regional Division of the Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences (NJAS) Competition, held on February 26th, 2015 in North Platte, NE. His scientific investigation and presentation on “Which battery would be the best buy?” earned him a place at the NJAS State science competition to be held at Nebraska Wesleyan University on April 17, 2015. There were 125 students in attendance at the Regional Science Competition this year, their biggest turn out in years. Of these 125 students, ten were picked to attend the State Science competition – five in the Senior High division, and five in the Junior high division.
