O’Boyle Named Coach of the Year
Pius X High School is proud to announce that Coach George O’Boyle has been named the 2014 Girls High School Cross Country Coach of the Year for the state of Nebraska. Principal Tom Korta and Athletic Director Tim Aylward presented the award to Coach O’Boyle at the start of track practice on Thursday, March 12, 2015, as his student athletes cheered.
The honor was bestowed on Coach O’Boyle “based upon the performance of the Pius X cross country team throughout the 2014 season, and is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the student athletes and the coaching staff of your school,” wrote Sam Seems, CEO of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Coach O’Boyle’s coaching legacy spans five decades. He began leading the Pius X cross country and track teams in 1967, and has amassed 22 team and countless individual state championships. In 2000 he was named the National Cross Country Coach of the Year, and was the recipient of the 2009 Nebraska Coaches Association “Binnie and Dutch” Awards. Pius X officially dedicated O’Boyle Track in his name on August 22, 2014.
