Pius X Volleyball Coach Stepping Down After 25 Years
Athletic Director Tim Aylward announced today that Coach Jake Moore will be stepping down after 25 seasons as Pius X’s Head Volleyball Coach. Moore will continue to teach Business Education and to serve as the school’s assistant athletic director.
“On behalf of Pius X, I’d like to extend our thanks to Coach Moore for all he’s done for Pius X’s volleyball teams, and commend him for the success he has achieved,” Aylward stated. “His work ethic, time commitment, and dedication have been outstanding. He has been a tremendous volleyball coach, and he will be greatly missed.”
During his tenure Coach Moore has amassed an impressive 705-232 win-loss record. His volleyball teams have qualified for the Nebraska State Volleyball Tournament 21 times, including the last 20 consecutive seasons. Under his leadership Pius X has won seven state championships (’96, ’97, ’98, ’06, ’07, ’08, ’11), one state runner-up title (’04), and finished as a state semi-finalist eight other times (’95, ’99, ’00, ’03, ’05, ’09, ’10, ’12).
Moore was also a finalist for the 2014 High School National Coach of the Year, the most prestigious award given to high school coaches in America. This was the second time Moore received this honor having previously been named a semi-finalist in 2008. Coach Moore also has been named PrepVolleyball.com National High School Coach of the Year (’08), AVCA National High School Coach of the Year Finalist (’08), Nebraska Coaches Association Coach of the Year (’97-’98, ’07-’08), Omaha World Herald Coach of the Year (’07), Lincoln Journal Star Coach of the Year (’98, ’12), KFOR Girls Athletics Coach of the Year (’97), and was selected to coach in the Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Match (’94, ’98, ’08).
"I am proud of what it means to be a member of the Pius X Volleyball Program, what it has become, and the opportunities that it has provided for the many student-athletes and student assistants that have graced us with their talents and treasures over my 25 years of coaching,” commented Moore. “I will miss coaching, but am excited to see what is in store for the next chapter in my life."
