Students celebrate Seder Meal
Students at St. Joseph School, Beatrice, experienced a Christian Seder Meal on Wednesday of Holy Week. It is rich with symbolism connecting the Passover, the Last Supper, and the Mass. For example, the bitter herb (radish) reminds us of the bitterness of the slavery of the Jews long ago and our own slavery to sin when we do not allow Jesus to set us free. Yet, the bitter herb is dipped into the sweet haroset (apple mixture) to remind us that even the most bitter things in life can be sweetened by our hope in God. Students also partook of unleavened bread and greens dipped in salt water as a reminder of the tears shed by the Israelites in slavery.
