Pius X Student Earns Junior Achievement Scholarship
Pius X senior Hayley Stamper has been awarded the Junior Achievement® (JA) of Lincoln Driven Youth Invitational (DYI) Scholarship. The $500 scholarship was sponsored by Nelnet. Stamper was presented with the scholarship at the March 24th DYI “Shark Tank” competition. Junior Achievement at Pius X is sponsored by business teacher Mr. Ryan Psota.
Now in its fourth year JA’s Driven Youth Invitational is a free 7-week program that provides local high school students with the knowledge and insight they need to compete and succeed in today’s economy. Through the program students interface with some of Lincoln’s most successful and renowned entrepreneurs, and gain hands-on experience to create, build, and maintain a thriving business. Of the 21 students in the program, 12 were Pius X business students.
For the 5th year in a row students at Pius X have been awarded JA scholarships. To qualify, a student must be a high school senior in the top half of his/her class; will be attending college; has participated in DYI or another JA program; and has demonstrated academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and service to their community.
Two students were also drawn as winners of Kindle Fires donated by Kaplan University. Entries into the drawing were based on attendance at DYI evening events. The winners were Pius X juniors Hunter Harrington and PJ O’Brien.
