Pius X Students and Alumnus Earn Main Stage Appearance at Wakarusa Music Festival
Pius X juniors Chloe Pinkman and Noah Gose and Pius X alumnus Noah Pinkman ’14 recently earned the opportunity to perform on one of two main stages at the Wakarusa Music Festival. Their band, The Wildwoods, won both a state and national competition to secure their performance.
The Wildwoods will perform on the Revival stage during the national music festival which will be held June 4-7 on Mulberry Mountain, Ozark, Ark. The Wakarusa Music Festival, now in its 12th year, will feature more than 150 acts on six stages. The four day event will be attended by more than 20,000 music fans.
The trios’ road to Wakarusa started in December when The Wildwoods submitted an electronic press kit and music samples on ReverbNation, an online music platform for independent artists to promote and distribute their music. After patiently waiting more than a month, the trio was notified that they had been selected to perform in the Waka Winter Classic. The Classic travels to 20 cities in 14 states where five artists or bands are selected to perform and compete in each city for an opportunity to play at the Wakarusa Music Festival.
“Winning the Waka Winter Classic is an opportunity of a lifetime,” shared Gose. “We are excited for the chance to have our music heard by so many new people, as well as individuals in the music industry.”
After first winning the live competition held in Lincoln and securing a spot on one of the smaller stages at Wakarusa, The Wildwoods then competed in the national online contest. Each band or artist submitted a video performance and people from all over the country voted for which band they wanted to see on the main stage. The top two vote getters secured their appearance on the main stage during the festival.
“We are amazed at how many fans turned out to support us and we are very grateful for it,” Gose continued. “We can't wait for Wakarusa!”
The Wildwoods are an acoustic music group which formed in 2012. Their unique sound mixes old time country and bluegrass with today’s pop music. The trio performs their own original music, combined with folk, pop, fiddle, and rock. They perform regularly at many local music venues in Lincoln, in addition to restaurants, coffee shops, vineyards, private parties, and the Nebraska State Fair. The Wildwoods also recently produced their first CD of original music entitled A Little Sweeter, and their music can be purchased on Pandora Radio, iTunes, Bandcamp and CD Baby.
