Pius X Academic Decathlon Claims Second Place at National Competition
Pius X High School students claimed second place in Division II at the 2015 United States Academic Decathlon. Held in Garden Grove, Calif., on April 16-18, Pius X placed 8th overall out of 46 teams. The national competition is split into three divisions based on school size.
A highlight of Pius X’s performance was a gold medal earned in the Super Quiz competition. The Super Quiz team participants included: Honors—Philip Hanigan, Liam Kruse, Catherine Krueger; Scholastic—Henry Jaros, Jacob Schreiber, Anna Tetherow; and Varsity—Noah Schimenti, Freddie Barie, Esther Brown.
Additionally Pius X senior Philip Hanigan led Pius X individually, and ranked 11th out of all of the Aca Deca competitors.
This is the second year in a row that Pius X won the state competition and earned the trip to compete on the national level. The Pius X Aca Deca team is coached by Mrs. Ann Kotopka, Mrs. Shiela Sievert, Ms. Mary Jo Kopf and Mrs. Margaret Kaiser-Woodward.
