Pius X Trap Raise Funds Against Cancer
On Saturday, April 18, the Pius X Trap Club participated in the 1st Annual “Shooting For A Cure Trap Shoot”. The idea for the event came from Pius X senior and Trap Club member Jacob Kreikemeier. A fellow team member was dealing with cancer in his family. Both the team member's parents were battling cancer for the second time. Initially, the event would raise money to support the family. Later the idea was expanded to raise awareness of cancer and funds for the American Cancer Society.
Jacob took his idea to his fellow senior teammates who all agreed and wanted to help. They discussed the idea with head coach Craig Keaschall who suggested that the idea be spread to all teams in the Central Division of the Eastern Nebraska Trapshooting Conference. Together the group of 19 teams would hold a cancer awareness shoot in conjunction with an already scheduled trap shoot meet to be held at Izaak Walton.
A group of Pius X seniors created the design for a t-shirt and designated the meet as a breast cancer awareness shoot. Thanks to the generosity of Degree Heating and Cooling approximately 450 participants wore pink “Shooting for a Cure” t-shirts. Free-will donations were taken and additional t-shirts sold at the event. All proceeds were given to the American Cancer Society.
Pius X seniors Jacob Kreikemeier and Matt Kriefels were interviewed about the fundraising event which was featured on Channel 10/11. The interview can be seen at: http://www.1011now.com/home/headlines/Shoot-for-a-Cure-Takes-Aim-at-Cancer-300570261.html.
The Pius X Trap team would like to extend special thanks to everyone for showing their support for those currently battling cancer, celebrating those who have won the fight, and honoring those who we have lost.
