Pius X to Welcome Potential Students and Parents

Prospective students and their parents are invited to discover the educational opportunities available at Pius X High School during its annual New Student Orientation on Monday, February 8, 2016. Hosted by the Guidance Department and the Student Council, the event will be held in Bishop Flavin Gym beginning at 7 p.m.

The orientation will provide important information about the academic, spiritual, and extra-curricular activities available at Pius X. Guidance Director Jan Frayser will highlight the school’s outstanding academic performance history and share the requirements for graduation. Frayser will also give examples of possible class options and schedules, and information on how to register for classes.

Students and parents will also have an opportunity to tour the school and visit booths hosted by various student organizations and athletic teams. Pius X offers 19 competitive sports (including nine for girls and 10 for boys), Academic Decathlon, band, vocal music, speech, drama, yearbook, cheer and dance teams, and 35 student-led extracurricular activities/clubs.

Pius X was named a School of Excellence by the Cardinal Newman Society as part of the Catholic Honor Roll (2014) ranking it amongst the top 5% of Catholic High Schools in the nation. In addition to its 99% graduation rate, Pius X is proud of the many distinctions that make it an outstanding educational option for Lincoln and surrounding area high school students. Among those are:

  • Two students from the class of 2016 have scored a perfect 36 on the ACT;
  • 44 students from the class of 2015 received a score of 30 or higher on the ACT, putting them in the top 5% of the nation;
  • Pius X offers more than 100 classes in 12 academic departments, including advanced placement classes in 8 subjects; and
  • 46 Pius X graduates have gone on to become priests or religious brothers or sisters in Lincoln and beyond. Currently 26 Pius X alumni are in religious formation.

Spanish and Vietnamese translators will be available to assist parents and students and to answer questions about the school. Additionally, the Pius X Foundation staff will be available to provide financial scholarship information. In 2015-16 more than $75,000 in tuition assistance was awarded through 35 endowed funds and numerous grants and private gifts.
